Slayer Guitarist Jeff Hanneman Dies At 49

Today is probably one of the saddest day for any metalhead or Slayer fan out there. Jeff Hanneman, guitarist for Slayer has died at 49.

Hanneman died today (May 2) at 11:00am in his home. He had contracted necrotizing fasciitis, most likely from a spider bite. Hanneman was forced to leave Slayer's live dates due to that issue. It's not the official cause of his death but an official press release from their publicist revealed he had liver failure.

It reads:

"Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

I am truly devestated. When I was told that he had passed away, I didn't believe it. Jeff was one of the best guitar shredders out there. He composed some of my favorite and most famous slayer songs like 'South of Heaven', 'Angel of Death', and 'Raining Blood.' I am positive their are millions of fans grieving his lost, most especially his family. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the rest of Slayer.

You will be missed Jeff Hanneman and never forgotten.
